AI Based X-Ray For Diagnosis of COVID-19

The world is facing a global pandemic crisis. In this situation, healthcare facilities are facing problems like staff shortages and overwhelming patient loads. Intense increment in loads of patients tends to work on compensating the medical services, this leads us to find the methods which help to fastrack the diagnosis process.  Researchers from various fields work on developing the methods and devices which help to fastrack the diagnosis process.

Approval of the invention and research depends on the accuracy of results and its ease of application. Conventional diagnosis methods like Polymerising chain reaction (PCR) are having better results and accuracy but the time required for the diagnosis of samples is more. So far, in an emergency situation, it is often difficult to check more samples in less time. Researchers got a solution to this problem in terms of new technology.

AI Technology

AI (Artificial Intelligence) is a booming area of research in various fields. The pandemic becomes the gateway for the adoption of AI in health care.

Rizwan Malik a lead radiologist at Royal Bolton Hospital run by the UK’s National Health Services (NHS) always had an interest in AI systems. He saw it as a promising way in making his work much easier. Malik decided to design a clinical trial for showing the abilities of that system. He analyzed the qXR, the most effective X-Ray system running on AI technology from the company named Qure.ai, which is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

Mr. Malik appointed his trainee radiologist to handle various X-Ray samples. During the period of trial, Mr. Malik consistently checks for the opinions to match with his own, if these opinions, match with his own then he decides on the resulting opinion. For the approval of this system. it took multiple reviews from health facilities and the NHS  committee during a few months of trials.

Testing of samples with PCR machines costs more and takes time, as there is a shortage of PCR machines, therefore  according to health professionals Chest X-Ray is the best tool for diagnosis of COVID-19

Modern researchers identified the different lung conditions in severe COVID cases, AI becomes the faster and best way for the diagnosis of diseases but it does not follow the conventional diagnosis methods which bring the patients fear and harm.  From that, we got the idea that in the future AI can be implemented in various fields of healthcare systems. In this global pandemic, crisis researchers started working on AI for its implementation in technical and non-technical areas. AI helps us reduce human efforts and increase the accuracy of results compared to the results obtained by conventional methods.

As we know AI is becoming an important part of technology development and it seems to be an intelligent way of doing work. AI-based X-Ray is an example of the implementation of advanced technology in health care. Like this, lots of research and implementation of AI in healthcare are possible, in the future, if we are subject to a global crisis like this again then it’s important to start taking preventive steps from now to avoid critical situations. To avoid such a situation, it’s important to focus not only on technology but also on the convenience and ease of application of that technology.
